Expense receipts shouldn't require a search party

Adam spent 20 minutes looking for a $36 receipt. His finance team sent three Slack messages. Someone made a sticky note.

Ramp would have matched it automatically the moment he swiped. Auto-coded, in-policy, synced. Nobody had to ask Adam for anything.

This is what finance looks like when it runs itself.

Your team can be Adam. Or they can not be Adam.

Hey, glad you’re here. A lot of you just joined recently, so I wanted to skip the usual cold open this week (TV talk) and actually introduce myself, tell you what this newsletter thing is all about, and welcome you to something new that Beehiiv just launched last week, community.

🎬 THIS WEEK’S CHAOS REPORT

📺 Who Am I?

For over a decade, I produced reality TV. Worked on shows for Paramount, CBS, Amazon and Discovery. A show I worked on was nominated for a Critic’s Choice Awards and another show I worked on won a Daytime Emmy. I worked my way up from PA to EP, but then in February 2020, I walked onto my last TV set, and in October 2024 I wrapped a show in post and the emails and calls just stopped. I was 45, married with two young kids, and I had no plan.

The mistake I made was thinking my TV producer resume would translate to any other industry. I mean as a producer we wore so many hats, we really can do anything. The problem was, my skills did NOT translate. So I had a choice: keep chasing shows and feeling let down, or turn to my own reality. That was the chaos of parenting and turned that into a content career. Here we are less than two years later, Devin the Dad was born, over 50K followers across social, 100 million views a year, 30+ brand deals and from $0 to over $10K a month in just brand deals alone. Which leads us to here, turning chaos into content newsletter.

✍️ What To Expect

Every Sunday, I will be sending out a newsletter, a week in review. Thoughts from a dad building a content business. I know this week is in the middle of the week, but wanted to say hello and welcome all the new faces. But as a kid of the 90’s, Sunday night was a special night around our house. It was family night, either Wonderful World of Disney or it was a Blockbuster night.

I send out a newsletter about the stuff I’m actually living: dad life and parenting, building a content career from scratch, and the messy reality of a career pivot in your 40’s. This will be tips, tricks, and funny stories along the way as we build in public and for anyone reinventing themselves while raising a family. If you want a feel for it, there are a few past favorites waiting in the archive, take a read of one of my favorites, Do You Struggle with Career Grief.

🤝 The Big News — Community

Now that we are here and you love reading the newsletter whether you are a parent, creator or professional or in the middle of a career pivot, I'm excited to share that we just launched a community space. Beehiiv is our platform we use here and since we launched not only is it easy to use, gives you opportunities to monetize, but they continue to push the boundaries on what creators can create. Beehiiv is making this so much easier for creators and their audiences.

So what’s different about community than the weekly newsletter? Well, the newsletter is a one way street, it’s just me talking to you. Community gives us all a chance to connect directly, swap ideas, ask questions, and get access you can only find here. So click below and join the community today.

🔥 Kick Things Off

To get the ball rolling, I posted the first discussion inside asking: what’s a chaos moment in your life that led to something new or unexpected? Jump in and share yours — I’ll be in there sharing mine too.

Keep creating,
