🎬 This Week's Chaos Report

Not everyone posts about the middle.

You see the before. The career, the title, the grind. You see the after, the success and the celebration.

But the middle? The part where you don't know if any of this is going to work? Where you're building something but you have no idea what it is yet? Where you're too far in to go back but not far enough to see what's ahead?

That part stays in the drafts or bottled up inside. We are afraid to share that middle because many times it is chaos and we are just trying to survive and hope that we can make it through and thrive.

I know because I lived there. The TV work dried up, the phone got quiet, and I became a dad right in the middle of all of it. No plan. No pivot strategy. No clarity. Just a guy who used to run sets for a living, sitting in the chaos, trying to figure out what comes next.

🎨 Why the messy middle is important

Right now, more than half of American workers are worried, afraid their skills are becoming irrelevant or being lost to AI. People aren't quitting. They're not growing. They're just... waiting. Holding on. Trying to survive.

That's the messy middle at scale.

And here's the thing nobody tells you when you're in it: the middle isn't the problem. The middle is the material. The thing that builds character and the old self dies and you become a new version of yourself on the other side of the chaos.

Every piece of content I've built, every framework I've developed, every brand deal and keynote and newsletter — none of it came from the highlight reel. It came from processing the chaos out loud. From being willing to say I don't have this figured out yet in public, while I was still figuring it out. My vacation with kids is not just sunshine and rainbows, it’s chaotic and hard work.

📍What I learned building a brand

Here's what nobody tells you when you're in it: the messy middle isn't the problem. It's the raw material.

Every piece of content I've built, every framework, every brand deal and keynote — none of it came from having it all figured out. It came from processing the chaos out loud. From being willing to say I don't have this figured out yet, but I’m willing to talk about it and share my journey with others.

The people waiting for clarity before they start creating are going to be waiting a long time. The most powerful thing you can do right now is document where you are — not where you're going.

💡Why the middle isn’t the gap - it’s the material

The messy middle isn't just about the gap between who you were and who you're becoming. It's where the actual work happens. It's where you find out what you're actually made of — and more importantly, what you actually have to say.

Turning chaos into content is where I developed my voice. In the chaos of parenting and that voice found a home on social. So not only do I get to continue to share my dad life comedy, but also my career pivot.

🏆 This Week's Takeaway

You don't need to be on the other side to start telling the story.

In fact, the most powerful content you'll ever make is the stuff you create while you're still in it. Not the polished recap. The real-time dispatch from inside the chaos.

So here's what I want you to do this week:

Write down the thing you're in the middle of right now. The career uncertainty. The pivot you haven't committed to yet. The version of yourself you're trying to build but can't fully see. Don't clean it up. Don't wait until you have the ending.

That's your content. That's your brand. That's the thing people will actually connect with — because most of them are in the middle too, and nobody is talking about it.

The before and after are easy. The middle is where trust gets built.

Start there.

If this one hit, forward it to someone who's been sleeping on their own experience. Or reply and tell me what your "old skill" is — and I can help you use that to your advantage.

Keep creating,

Devin the Dad Former TV Producer. Current Chaos Coordinator.

P.S. If you're in the messy middle and nobody around you gets it — that's exactly why I started writing this newsletter.

P.P.S. — My daughter still thinks my job is "making videos about her." She's not entirely wrong.
